Heavenly Slices

Common cake glazed with extra refined sugar and lemon.

Ingredients

Dough
3 cupswheat flour
2 cupssugar
1 cupmilk
1 tablesspoonbaking powder
6eggs
250 g (1/2 lb)margarine
dash of salt
Icing
250 g (1/2 lb)extra refined sugar
juice of one lemon

Preparation

With a cake mixer beat the margarine, sugar and salt until soft. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well. Sift the dry ingredients and add to the dough, by the spoons, alternating with milk.

Grease and dust a medium rectangular baking pan. Spread the dough on it and bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 °C for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Icing: Sift the extra refined sugar and add the juice of one lemon. Stir well until completely dissolved (this mixture should have a relatively firm consistency). Spread the icing over the still hot cake, let it cool down, cut it in easy-to-serve portions, then serve.
